Job Title: Legal Counsel
Location: Ortho Consulting Group Ltd, 4 Communications Road, Greenham Business Park, Newbury, RG19 6AB
Employment Type: Full-time (potential for 4 days)
Reporting to: General Counsel
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 (subject to experience) plus competitive benefits
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Legal Counsel to join OCG as we continue to shape the world of Orthopaedics and Spine.
You will partner closely with colleagues across business units to deliver commercially focused guidance on multi-sector legal areas. You will play a key role in facilitating OCG’s continued growth and compliance by executing strategic and routine legal projects with precision and efficiency. Core responsibilities will include contract management and negotiation, development and maintenance of policies and templates to manage legal and compliance risks across the group. You will work with counterparts across the global Orthopaedic and Spine industry, including leading blue chip medical device manufacturers.
You will be a bastion of the group’s legal infrastructure, working closely with the Group General Counsel to further develop and implement operational solutions for efficient management of the group’s legal records and process flows.
The group seeks a Legal Counsel (2+ PQE) to work alongside the General Counsel on legal projects, offering opportunities for career growth in a dynamic, expanding business.

Key Responsibilities
Legal Advisory
- Serve as a primary legal advisor to senior leadership across all business units.
- Support the Group General Counsel in implementing group-wide legal strategies aligned with business objectives.
Contract Management
- Draft, review and negotiate client and supplier agreements.
- Maintain contract templates and negotiation frameworks in line with group policies
- Manage “live” contracts to ensure continued compliance with terms
- Ensure contracts mitigate risk, comply with applicable laws and group policies
- Maintain legal records and contract database to support ongoing governance of the group’s contractual relationships
Regulatory Compliance
- Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Implement and maintain compliance monitoring processes
- Advise on data protection and ABC matters.
- Supporting the Designated Individual and Human Tissue Management Group with Human Tissue Act compliance
Risk Management
- Identify potential legal risks and propose mitigation strategies.
- Manage disputes and liaise with external counsel when necessary.

- Oversee company policies and governance frameworks
- Review, maintain and monitor adherence to authorisation processes and delegated authorities
- Support the Group General Counsel with company secretarial tasks, such as Companies House filings, maintaining company books and administering board meetings.
Qualifications & Skills
- Law degree (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2+ years of post-qualification experience.
- Strong knowledge of contract law, compliance, and regulatory frameworks
- Depth of experience in commercial contracts such as distribution agreements, consultancy agreements and supplier services agreements.
- Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a dynamic team, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail
- A growth mindset and appetite for continuous improvement;
- A keen interest in evolving legal operations within a compliant AI enabled environment
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience as in-house counsel within an SME or consultancy setting.
- Previous experience of the medical devices industry or other regulated industry
- An understanding of ISO 13485 or ISO 9001
- Familiarity with international contracts and cross-border compliance.
