About The Role
We are looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel (UK & EMEA) to provide strategic legal and compliance support across the UK and EMEA regions. This role will support legal and compliance activity across DTC | A Codan Company and the wider Codan group.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide commercially pragmatic legal advice across the business
- Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial agreements
- Support governance, regulatory, and compliance matters across the UK and EMEA
- Identify and manage legal and compliance risks, with practical mitigation strategies
- Advise on:
- Contractual matters
- Commercial matters
- IP (intellectual property)
- Privacy and data protection
- Support:
- Bids
- Contract variations
- Disputes
- Day-to-day legal enquiries
- Collaborate with global legal colleagues and external counsel on cross-border matters
- Deliver training on key risk areas, including:
- ABAC (Attribute-Based Access Control)
- Modern Slavery
- Cyber risk
- Other compliance frameworks
- Contribute to continuous improvement of legal processes, templates, systems, and ways of working

Requirements
You will be a qualified legal professional with:
- Strong commercial awareness
- Excellent drafting skills
- Confidence to advise diverse stakeholders
- Pragmatic and solutions-focused approach
- Ability to balance legal risk with commercial outcomes
Ideal Background
- Qualified Solicitor status in England and Wales, or an equivalent European qualification
- Approximately 1–3 years’ PQE (post-qualification experience), although newly-qualified candidates will also be considered
- Strong experience in corporate and commercial law
- Experience from a top-tier or strong mid-tier firm, with in-house experience preferred (but not essential)
- Exposure to the following would be advantageous:
- Export controls
- Regulatory matters
- Privacy
- Intellectual property
