Retail Financial Services Lawyer – M&G Legal Team

The Role
We are seeking an experienced retail financial services lawyer to permanently join the M&G Legal team, specialising in the Individual Life & Pensions business. The role will:
- Support the development, distribution, and ongoing management of retail savings and investment propositions, enabling business growth while ensuring good customer outcomes.
- Provide legal and regulatory guidance that balances commercial pragmatism with rigorous compliance.
Key Responsibilities
You will deliver timely, clear, and commercially pragmatic legal advice on all matters relating to:
- Retail savings and investment products
- Product structuring and design
- Customer communications and financial promotions
- Relevant legal and regulatory frameworks (interpretation, application, and practical guidance)
Obligations include:
- Identifying, managing, and mitigating legal, regulatory, and conduct risks for the business.
- Advising on product development, implementation, and lifecycle management.
- Overseeing product remediation and updates to terms, features, distribution, and servicing models.
- Drafting, reviewing, and advising on:
- Policy terms and conditions
- Customer communications
- Marketing materials and financial promotions

Requirements
Technical Expertise
- Qualified solicitor (England & Wales or equivalent) with at least 4 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE).
- Specialised experience within one or more of the following sectors (essential):
- Life insurance
- Pensions
- Asset/wealth management
- Retail financial services.
- Proven working knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks governing retail savings and investment products.
Commercial and Analytical Capability
- competencies:
- Strong ability to apply legal principles pragmatically in a commercial context.
- Sound judgement to balance legal risk with business objectives.
- Handling complex issuing and interpreting clear, actionable recommendations.
Stakeholder Management
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to influence and engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
- Collaborative mindset; ability to work cohesively across diverse business functions.
Personal Attributes
- Proactive problem-solver with a solutions-oriented approach.
- High levels of ethical integrity and professional judgement.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality, deadline-sensitive output.
