As our Legal Counsel – IP, you’ll work closely with brilliant people across the business. You’ll be right at the heart of fast-moving projects that shape how we engage with consumers – today and tomorrow.

This role plays a pivotal part in driving our consumer-centric strategy. Your contributions will help elevate the DM experience, enabling teams, improving processes, influencing decision-making, and crafting moments that matter on a global scale.
You’ll help us push boundaries, raise the bar, and keep the spirit of DM alive in everything we deliver.
Core Accountabilities
As our Legal Counsel – IP, you’ll be responsible for:
- Brand protection leadership
- Lead global brand protection strategy (online/offline)
- Manage internal and external teams/vendors
- Oversee enforcement against counterfeits and lookalikes across key marketplaces, platforms, and social media

IP advisory & enforcement
- Assess risks in new markets and support trademark strategy
- Handle IP contract work, including T&Cs, distribution agreements, and settlement agreements
- Collaborate on disputes and enforcement with internal teams and external counsel

Strategic insight & governance
- Align IP strategy with business growth
- Maintain relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., ACG)
- Monitor legal/industry developments
- Ensure robust reporting and knowledge-sharing across the IP team
Key Skills & Capabilities

Qualified IP lawyer
- UK-qualified solicitor with minimum PQE
- Strong contentious IP and brand protection experience
- Proven capability in contract drafting (T&Cs, settlement agreements)
- Postgraduate IP and in-house experience desirable

Technical & commercial expertise
- Deep knowledge of trademarks, trade dress, copyright/design rights
- Strong ability to translate IP risks into practical, commercially-aligned actions
- Focused on protecting brand value across markets

Influential & delivery-focused
- Strong stakeholder management and programme delivery skills
- Clear communication and training abilities
- Global, multi-jurisdictional mindset
- Proven process discipline
