About The Role
We are looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel, UK & EMEA to provide strategic legal and compliance support across the UK and EMEA regions.
This role will support legal and compliance activity across DTC | A Codan Company and the wider Codan group. You will provide timely, pragmatic legal advice, support contract activity, help manage risk, and contribute to strong governance and compliance across the business.
This is a varied role suited to someone who can translate complex legal issues into clear, practical guidance, while building trusted relationships with stakeholders across legal, finance, HR, IT, cyber, commercial and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities Include
- Providing commercially pragmatic legal advice across the business
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of commercial agreements.
- Supporting governance, regulatory and compliance matters across the UK and EMEA
- Identifying and managing legal and compliance risks, with practical mitigation strategies.
- Advising on contractual, commercial, IP, privacy and data protection matters.
- Supporting bids, contract variations, disputes and day-to-day legal enquiries.
- Collaborating with global legal colleagues and external counsel on cross-border matters.
- Delivering training on key risk areas including ABAC, Modern Slavery, cyber risk and other compliance frameworks.
- Contributing to continuous improvement of legal processes, templates, systems and ways of working.
About You
You will be a qualified legal professional with strong commercial awareness, excellent drafting skills and the confidence to advise a wide range of stakeholders. You will be pragmatic, solutions-focused and comfortable balancing legal risk with commercial outcomes.
The Successful Candidate Will Ideally Have
- Qualified Solicitor status in England and Wales, or an equivalent European qualification.
- Approximately 1–3 years’ PQE, although newly qualified candidates will also be considered.
- Strong experience in corporate and commercial law.
- Experience from a top-tier or strong mid-tier firm, with in-house experience preferred, but not essential.
- Exposure to export controls, regulatory matters, privacy or intellectual property would be advantageous.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and documentation integrity.
- The ability to manage multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- A current English Practising Certificate, or equivalent European qualification.
