Are you a commercially minded litigation solicitor looking to make a visible impact in a global business? We're looking for a Legal Counsel with a litigation focus to take ownership of debt recovery activity across multiple jurisdictions, helping to drive positive business outcomes while leading and developing a small team. This is an opportunity to combine hands-on litigation expertise with strategic process improvement, stakeholder management, and international collaboration in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Taking ownership of a global debtor portfolio, reviewing cases, and prioritising recovery activity based on value, age, and likelihood of recovery.
- Leading efforts to reduce outstanding debt and deliver recovery objectives within agreed timescales and business targets.
- Managing, coaching, and developing a small team responsible for day-to-day debt recovery activities.
- Coordinating debt recovery matters across multiple jurisdictions, working effectively with different legal systems, cultures, and time zones.
- Overseeing the full recovery lifecycle, from early arrears management through to litigation, enforcement, and resolution.
- Designing and implementing efficient processes, workflows, and escalation procedures to support a consistent global recovery approach.
- Managing external legal providers, debt collection agencies, and specialist advisers to ensure high-quality and cost-effective outcomes.
- Monitoring performance, assessing litigation risk, and providing insightful reporting and recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Skills and Experience
- Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales with a current practicing certificate.
- Solid litigation experience gained within private practice, an in-house legal team, or a combination of both.
- Previous experience leading, mentoring, or developing individuals or teams.
- Knowledge of debt recovery matters, either as a specialist area or as part of a broader litigation caseload.
- Strong commercial judgement, with the ability to balance legal risk, recovery value, and business objectives.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills, with experience improving or embedding processes.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
- Exposure to international debt recovery, cross-border matters, credit control, insolvency processes, or enforcement procedures would be advantageous.
