Legal Counsel – NQ to PQE Solicitor (International Role)
The Accelerating Legal Excellence Opportunity
Wood’s award-winning Eastern Hemisphere Legal team is seeking a NQ to PQE (pre-qualification experience) solicitor to join in the role of Legal Counsel, based in Reading or Aberdeen with hybrid working capabilities.
About the Role
This role delivers precise, commercial, timely, and cost-effective legal advice across multi-jurisdictional matters with potential legal or reputational implications. You will support Wood’s strategic priorities globally (across UK & Europe, Middle East, Africa (CIS), and APAC) through effective legal risk and cost management.
Your responsibilities span a broad spectrum of specialist legal areas, including but not limited to:
- Litigation and disputes
- Contract/project support (EPC/EPCm and joint ventures)
- Employment law & compliance
- Real estate & company establishment
Our Clients and Purpose Wood drives transformation across 60+ countries, partnering with clients to deliver engineering, advisory, and operational solutions in energy and materials. You’ll contribute to innovative projects, such as green hydrogen and fuel switching, while shaping a lower-carbon future.

Responsibilities
- Provision of cost-effective, sustainable legal advice across regions with budget oversight
- Complex analysis and counsel for UK & Europe, CIS, APAC leadership on legal risks and disputes
- Support in litigation/dispute strategy: instructing, supervising, and resolving cases with external counsel
- Matter management: records of matter budgets, performance KPIs, and cost tracking
- Risk mitigation: anticipating legal/strategic risks and developing solutions
- Cross-functional legal compliance: oversight of functional risk while driving business-strategic initiatives
- Project management: transaction administration, litigation oversight, and vendor relations
- Knowledge-sharing: internal training materials, templates, and mentoring initiatives
- Global mindset: building collaboration in an advanced client-facing team
Quality Qualifications
Experience & Skills (Non Negotiable):
- NQ to 3 PQE credits:
- In-house or private sector solicitor experience
- Commercial legal acumen: advanced analytical and risk-based problem-solving
- Counsel & drafting: Interpret, syntactic structure, and articulate conclusions with sound analytical judgement
- Contract & dispute awareness: Core EPC/EPCm models, claims, variations, termination/clauses, and dispute conflict processes
- Matter management: Document control, reporting, and cost-scoping fundamentals
- Ability to power stakeholder management: Present complex issues clearly to non-lawyers
