Legal Enforcement Officer

Applications are invited from candidates based across the Midlands who are able to work in a hybrid capacity, including a combination of office-based work, home working, and attendance at court locations as required. Court coverage will mostly be Warwick, but involve supporting the team and working across Midlands area.

We are looking for an experienced housing professional to lead on delivering legally robust, compassionate and customer-focused advice and support relating to income recovery and tenancy breaches.

What you'll achieve

  • In this role, you will safeguard the organisation by ensuring all legal interventions are fair, proportionate and well-informed.
  • You will provide expert guidance to colleagues and customers on the legal processes surrounding possession, injunctions and enforcement actions relating to rent arrears, tenancy breaches, ASB and access issues.
  • You will take the lead on preparing high-quality legal documentation, making applications and initiating legal proceedings, and, where required, representing Orbit in court.
  • Above all, you will ensure customers feel informed, supported and confident throughout every stage of the legal journey.

What you'll achieve

  • You will lead on preparation and represent Orbit in court for possession, injunctions and enforcement actions relating to rent arrears, tenancy breaches, ASB and access issues.
  • As a court representative you will work to safeguard the organisation and support customers to feel safe, informed and supported through the legal process.

What you'll bring

Essential skills

  • In-depth understanding of housing law, Civil Procedure Rules, Pre-Action Protocols, and grounds for possession and injunctions.
  • Strong case management experience in both income recovery and tenancy enforcement, including ASB and breach cases.
  • Confidence and professionalism representing in court (County Court & High Court) with or without legal counsel.
  • Ability to assess complex cases involving vulnerabilities, legal defences, and potential disrepair or counterclaims.
  • High emotional intelligence and communication skills - able to influence, empathise and de-escalate in high-pressure situations.
  • Proven ability to build partnerships across teams and agencies, maintaining Orbit’s reputation as a fair and ethical landlord.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems.
  • Experience writing legal documentation: witness statements, court summaries, and case evidence.
  • Commitment to Orbit’s core values and customer promises: safety, trust, support and respect.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet the requirements of the role own transport key.

Desirable skills

  • Previous experience leading tenancy enforcement initiatives, community safety programmes or multi-agency forums.
  • Knowledge of welfare reform and income maximisation approaches.
  • Legal qualification or housing-related accreditation.
