Legal Entity Senior Accountant – Unite Students, Bristol
About the Role
Unite Students are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join their high-performing Finance team in Bristol.
Responsibilities
Working under the Group Consolidation Manager, this role leads a small team with two core responsibilities:

Accounting Production & Stakeholder Management
- Plan, project-manage, and produce high-quality accounts for ~350 Group entities (of which ~100 are subject to external audit).
- Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders to ensure timely filings in accordance with agreed deadlines.

Long-Term Rationalisation Strategy
- Support audit exemptions and wind-up/removal of unnecessary legal entities.
- Contribute to Group Reporting leadership around strategy, culture, and objectives.
Key Deliverables
- Coordinate planning and execution for legal entity accounts, including scheduling and stakeholder liaison.
- Identify redundant entities and coordinate closure with legal, tax, and property teams.
- Minimise statutory audit scope for required entities while ensuring accurate financial updates.
- Work with Company Secretariat to reflect structural changes in accounting accurately.
- Streamline intercompany trading relationships, resolving legacy balances and distributing reserves.
- Oversee the adjustments ledger, ensuring data accuracy and integration into Group reporting.
- Capitalise on systems/technology for continuous process improvement.
- Support new finance system implementation.

What We’re Looking For
- A fully qualified (ACA, CIMA or equivalent) accountant with extensive experience in commercial/technical reporting, particularly in large, listed environments.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality financial reporting under IFRS within tight deadlines.
- Strong audit experience (including Group financial statements and external reporting).
- Exceptional team management/development skills with a structured leadership approach.
- Deep understanding of complex Group structures.
- Proficient in advanced Excel (V-lookups, SUMIFs, PIVOT tables) and Oracle/HFM accounting software (CCH preferable).
- Ability to interpret technical accounting nuances and apply logical treatments where needed.
