Legal Intervention Officer

Legal Intervention Officer (Fixed-term, 12 months)

Contract Details

  • Contract Type: Fixed-term (12 months)
  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week
  • Role: Hybrid Worker
  • Salary: Starting salary: £46,142 (Level one) Rising to £49,282 (Level four) pro rata for part-time (Pay award pending)

About the Role

Nottingham City Council is seeking a dedicated Legal Intervention Officer to territorial as its specialist for implementing legal interventions and statutory provisions for school attendance. Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring best-practice legal interventions across the directorate
  • Acting under delegated authority on behalf of the council in prosecuting families
  • Taking on roles such as Investigating Officer, Deciding Officer, Disclosure Officer, and Prosecutor
  • Providing expert advice on attendance-related legal processes and prosecution strategies
  • Collaborating with managers, schools, and partner agencies

About You

We’re looking for a highly skilled professional with substantial experience in school attendance law and legal intervention.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of school attendance legislation, including the Education Act and enforcement processes
  • Experience managing and progressing complex legal cases, including preparing evidence for court
  • Ability to lead prosecutions on behalf of the local authority, including:
    • Preparing case files
    • Issuing penalty notices
    • Representing cases in court
  • Clear understanding of evidential requirements and legal thresholds for enforcement actions
