Legal Secretary
Experienced Legal Secretary – Professional and Commercial Risk (Manchester)

DAC Beachcroft’s Professional and Commercial Risk team in Manchester requires an experienced Legal Secretary to support their team of lawyers specialising in professional indemnity, financial lines, and commercial risk. You’ll act as the operational backbone, ensuring efficient client communication, matter management, and lawyer focus.
This role suits an accomplished legal secretary familiar with case management systems, comfortable handling complex matters, and eager to collaborate with senior legal professionals to deepen your expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Matter & Case Support
- Manage the full matter lifecycle, including:
- Conflict checks, file opening, key date management, and file closure
- Oversee document bundles, exhibits, and electronic filings using encryption and secure transmission tools
- Maintain accurate records in case management systems and client-specific platforms
- Prepare correspondence and documents from digital dictation
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for:
- Insurer clients
- Brokers
- Insureds
- Third parties
- Apply client-specific protocols, SLAs and delegated authority requirements
- Help train colleagues on compliance protocols
- Monitor matter inboxes, prioritise incoming work, and manage client responses
- Prepare claim histories, experience summaries and MI on request

Financial & Billing
- Oversee billing cycles, Work-In-Progress (WIP), and account balances with fee earners
- Log time and disbursements accurately, raise invoices, and resolve billing queries
- Process BACs, TT (telegram transfers), cheque requests and submit expenses
Team & Firm Support
- Cover colleagues when workload demands, ensuring continued excellence
- Coordinate with the Secretarial Team Leader on absences and workload distribution
- Operate within DAC Beachcroft’s risk, compliance and data security framework
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Core Requirements
✔ Proven experience as a Legal Secretary in a professional services or law firm environment ✔ Confidence with case management and document management systems (including client-side platforms) ✔ Advanced Microsoft Office skills, with intermediate-level Excel proficiency ✔ Strong written communication—accurate, professional, and resilient under pressure ✔ Highly organised, methodical, and adept at multi-tasking with precision ✔ Comfortable handling confidential information and adhering to data security protocols

Desired Experience
🚀 Insurance, professional indemnity, or commercial risk experience (a helpful but non-essential asset)
