Legal Secretary – Charities (9 Month Fixed-Term Contract)
Welcome to Wedlake Bell. We’re seeking a dedicated Legal Secretary to join our Charities team and support our Employment practice on a 9-month fixed-term contract (maternity cover) basis. This role is full-time, with 3 days in-office per week required.
About the Role
You’ll primarily support our Charities team, which advises clients ranging from large charities, social enterprises, NGOs, and philanthropic foundations—providing guidance on organisational structuring, governance, regulatory compliance (both domestic and international), and more.
As Legal Secretary, you’ll deliver high-quality administrative support to ensure the Charities team operates smoothly. Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing legal documents (from dictation or typed drafts)
- File management and maintenance (using iManage)
- Diary management for fee-earners (meetings, in-person/video calls via MS Teams)
- Client and stakeholder liaison
- Travel arrangements (UK and international)
- CRM updates (via InterAction) for business development (BD) initiatives
- Supporting the billing process (using 3E Elite) and liaising with Accounts & Finance
- Confidentiality handling (AML processes, document collation)
- Ad hoc tasks as required

Requirements
We’re looking for candidates with:
- At least 4 years’ experience as a Legal Secretary in a high-volume law firm, preferably in commercial (e.g., Employment, Disputes) or private client (e.g., tax, trusts) environments
- Strong organisational skills, prioritisation under tight deadlines
- Fast, accurate typing with excellent written English/grammar
- Collaborative and client-facing communication skills
- Legal software proficiency: iManage, 3E Elite, InterAction, BigHand, and MS Office
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Discretion in handling confidential information
