Help Shape the UK’s Energy Future

Legal Support Manager Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C

As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the CWA Wide Section.

What will you do?

The Legal Support Manager will provide support to the lawyers within the CWA's Legal team to enable the CWA’s Legal team to provide high-quality, practically focused legal service to the Civil Works Alliance. This will include:

  • Conducting legal research
  • Drafting simple documents
  • Liaising with other functions within the CWA
  • Assisting the Procurement and Commercial functions with negotiating and amending NDAs and supply chain contracts
  • Taking responsibility for getting NDAs and supply chain contracts executed
  • Maintaining a central repository of all executed NDAs and supply chain contracts
  • Assisting with any claims management under supply chain contracts
  • Preparation of relevant legal team reports
  • Assist in developing the CWA’s suite of contracts to be used when procuring works/services from the supply chain
  • Helping to create processes, policies and documentation to embed the requirements of the head contract into the day-to-day operations of the CWA
  • Oversee the preparation, documentation, and storage of all legal agreements and correspondences
  • Maintain accurate records to ensure easy retrieval for audits, dispute resolution, and compliance checks

Principal Accountabilities, Activities and Decisions

What are we looking for?

Knowledge & Skills

  • Legal Research: Experience in conducting legal research and presenting findings to Legal team members in a clear, concise and practically focused style.
  • Document Management: Strong document management skills, including ability to maintain version control, trackers of agreed document amendments, and trackers of document execution processes.
  • Resilience & Adaptability: Able to work in a fast-paced environment with evolving project demands and challenges.
  • Team player and relationship manager across multiple stakeholders with a strong work ethic
  • Commercial awareness
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to operate in a range of environments
  • Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills
  • MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point to a high standard

Qualifications & Experience

  • Either (i) an undergraduate degree in law, or (ii) an undergraduate degree in a non-law subject but has then undertaken and passed the Graduate Diploma in Law (or equivalent), or (iii) a relevant CILEX (or equivalent) qualification.
  • Experience of working on high-value energy/infrastructure projects desired, but not essential.
