Legal Tech & Privacy Automation Engineer (12-Month FTC)

Job Description

UNiDAYS is looking for a hands-on, systems-orientated Legal Tech & Privacy Automation Engineer to join us on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a highly technical, transformation-focussed role. You will act as the principal architect and builder of the automated pipelines that power our global privacy compliance and legal workflows.

Rather than managing static compliance databases or configuring heavy, legacy enterprise software modules, you will be tackling two primary engineering initiatives. First, you will build an LLM-driven automated engine from scratch to automate our core assessment processes—specifically Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Legitimate Interest Assessments (LIAs), and Vendor Privacy/Security Questionnaires—utilising our specialised internal legal LLM and legal-provided playbooks. Second, you will design and implement our dynamic, system-enabled data mapping architecture.

You will design a user-friendly, searchable "home" for this engine that serves two distinct audiences: business/product teams needing instant, self-serve compliance approvals, and the privacy team needing a robust, searchable audit ledger. To ensure these tools are built to last and align with our core tech stack, you will be fully embedded in our IT and Engineering Agile ceremonies (daily stand-ups, sprint planning), partnering directly with our Systems and Software Engineers.

Job Requirements

Core Competencies

System Integration & Scripting: High capability in connecting disparate systems and automating workflows. Process Optimisation: Expert at translating business rules into logical schemas, algorithms, and technical requirements. Agile Engineering Frameworks: Fluent in software development lifecycles, version control, and data engineering fundamentals.

What We Need From You

Technical Background: 3+ years of experience in Legal Technology, Privacy Engineering, Systems Analysis, Data Engineering, or DevOps/Automation Engineering. Automation & Scripting Skills: Hands-on experience with modern integration platforms (e.g., Zapier, Workato, Make), workflow builders, API configurations, or writing utility scripts (Python, SQL, JavaScript) to manipulate data and connect systems. Systems Architecture Mindset: A strong understanding of how database structures, metadata schemas, cloud environments, and API endpoints interact. Agile Fluency: Prior experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment, participating in sprints, stand-ups, and utilising Jira/GitHub. Pragmatic Problem Solver: Ability to interpret legal rules (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, AI regulatory principles) and convert them into clean "if-this-then-that" programme logic. You do not need to be a lawyer—the legal criteria will be defined for you. Low-Ego Collaboration: Eager to learn from systems engineers while keeping a razor-sharp focus on delivering the project's requirements on schedule.

Highly Desirable (Nice-to-Haves)

Familiarity with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, and utilising generative AI to build automated agents. Direct experience with data inventory systems or privacy management systems. Certifications in Data Privacy (CIPP/E, CIPM, CDPSE).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Job Responsibilities

What You’ll Do (Day-to-Day Responsibilities)1. LLM-Driven Assessment Automation & Searchable Hub (Primary Initiative - Priority 1)

Automated DPIA, LIA, and Vendor Assessments: Build and deploy programmatic workflows to automate high-frequency legal assessments (DPIAs, LIAs, and vendor onboarding privacy/security questionnaires). LLM & Knowledge Integration: Leverage UNiDAYS’ specialised legal LLM capabilities alongside pre-compiled, legal-provided documentation and playbooks. Programme the logic to auto-generate assessment drafts and flag high-risk operational items automatically. Architecting the Assessment "Home": Design and establish a centralised, secure, and fully searchable compliance repository where all completed and in-progress assessments live. This system must be structured to prevent data silos and ensure old assessments are instantly retrievable. Dual-User Experience Design: Ensure the system delivers tailored, intuitive interfaces for two distinct groups of users: The Business (Product, Commercial, & Engineering): Build a frictionless, low-touch intake channel (integrated into Slack, Teams, or a lightweight web interface) that allows non-legal teams to easily self-serve, input product changes, and receive automated, compliant-by-design project guidance. The Privacy/Legal Team: Design a powerful compliance dashboard and audit ledger allowing the privacy team to search history, track active pipelines, audit automated reasoning, and execute final legal sign-offs.

  1. Workflow Automation & Engineering

DSAR & Deletion Automation: Programme and implement low-touch, automated pipelines to extract, package, and delete data, drastically reducing manual engineering intervention during customer rights requests. Self-Serve Legal Tech Solutions: Work with Legal and Systems Engineering to build and deploy self-serve legal automation tools (e.g., automated NDA triggers, friction-free procurement vendor screening) integrated via Slack/Teams. API & Platform Management: Configure, integrate, and optimise necessary privacy tech platforms and enterprise systems to ensure seamless data flow.

  1. Automated Data Mapping & Dynamic RoPA (Primary Initiative - Priority 2)

System-Enabled Data Mapping: Partner with Engineering and IT to design and construct an automated, evergreen data mapping architecture. Replace our manual, static spreadsheet mapping with a programmatic, dynamic Record of Processing Activities (RoPA). Rubik's AI Framework Integration: Leverage our internal AI orchestration engine, "Rubik's", to harvest data snapshots across commercial, financial, and engineering platforms. Data Porting & Migration: Transition legacy data mapping elements out of old, manual structures into searchable, automated databases linked with retention policy triggers.

  1. Cross-Functional Engineering Collaboration

Embedded Team Operations: Join engineering stand-ups, sprint reviews, and architectural alignment sessions to ensure compliance structures are natively integrated into our cloud infrastructure. Documentation & Technical Handover: Author clean technical documentation, system architecture maps, and user playbooks to guarantee all custom automated systems are self-sustaining, maintainable, and easily managed by the permanent engineering team after the 12-month contract.

  1. Privacy Operations & Compliance Integration

Customer Support & DSARs: Design and implement a streamlined, end-to-end workflow for the Customer Support team to handle Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) and deletion requests, focussing on reducing manual intervention and improving turnaround time. Compliance Bridging: Act as the pragmatic interface between legal policy and technical development, translating high-level regulatory frameworks into actionable, logical system rules.
