Lifeguarding Instrument Staff Officer
Starting salary for this role is £26,403 (pro rata for part-time colleagues). This position sits within a well-defined pay band, offering clear career progression at BCP. Internal colleagues are appointed at the bottom of the band unless transitioning within the same profession and skill level, where the pay band remains the same.

Role Purpose
To provide lifeguarding services while ensuring the effective and safe operation of leisure facilities, enhancing an efficient, secure, and welcoming service for all customers.
Main Responsibilities
- Pool Area Supervision & Lifeguarding: Oversee the pool area following Royal Lifesaving Society guidelines to guarantee the safety and enjoyment of public users.
- Equipment Management: Responsible for setting up, organising, and securing sporting equipment promptly and safely.
- Facility Maintenance: Conduct regular cleanliness checks and participate in scheduled cleaning to uphold a clean and hygienic environment.
- Health & Safety Inspections: Adhere to the daily inspection schedule, escalating any concerns to ensure facilities are risk-free.
- Emergency Response: Act as a first aider for staff and customers to manage any medical emergencies effectively.
- Basic Coaching Support: Deliver safe, engaging, and informative non-specialist coaching sessions, including children’s parties and holiday activities (e.g., premade programmes).
- Customer Assistance: Offer general help and information, including reception duties, to ensure positive customer experiences.

Ideal Candidate Requirements
- Qualifications & Certifications:
- Valid National Pool Lifeguard qualification.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience & Knowledge:
- Familiarity with health and safety protocols in leisure and swimming pool environments.
- Experience in the leisure industry, particularly in leading or delivering sporting activities.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication with customers and colleagues.
- Ability to follow scheduled tasks while reprioritising based on urgent needs.
