Leisure Centre Supervisor – Full-Time Role (Permanent) | Active Leicester

Reference: REQ7316 Location: Aylestone & Evington Leisure Centres, Leicester Contract: Full-time (37 hours/week) Salary: £28,598–£31,022 per year Total benefit value: £42,300.95 (including pension & holiday entitlement) Job Type: Permanent, Shift-Based

About the Role

Are you passionate about sports, fitness, and customer service? As a Leisure Centre Supervisor, you will ensure high-quality service delivery at our seven leisure centres, supporting the Council’s bold plans to elevate our approach to leisure, swimming, and wellbeing.

From managing staff, ensuring safety, and maintaining cleanliness to contributing to operational excellence, this role sits at the heart of our transformation. You’ll work across multiple sites on a shift basis—including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the General Manager and Assistant Manager in:
    • Delivering aquatics, health & fitness, and centre operations according to planned schedules.
    • Supervising staff to ensure smooth facility management and service quality.
    • Ensuring health & safety compliance for both members and employees.
    • Maintaining cleanliness, preparation, and orderliness of all facilities.

  • Day-to-day operations:

    • Oversee day-to-day leisure centre activity.
    • Allocate and supervise staff to meet operational needs.
    • Prioritise customer service excellence and facility upkeep.
  • Team Leadership & Motivation:

    • Support staff performance and development with a can-do attitude.
    • Provide strong service leadership across all team members.
  • Service Enhancement:

    • Contribute to ongoing improvements and integration of capital improvements.

Job Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Proven front-line experience in a leisure centre, gym, or sports facility.
  • Ability to coordinate staff effectively and meet operational targets.
  • Excellent communications skills and customer service ethos.
  • Experience supervising or supporting staff (performance development, teamwork).
  • Strong Health & Safety knowledge in leisure centre environments.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Flexible attitude for shift-based work (including early starts, evenings, weekends, & Bank Holidays).

Nice to Have:

  • Previous public sector or Council experience.
  • Qualifications in leisure management, sports coaching, or health/safety.
