Lending Advisor Generalist

About the Role

The Lending Advisor Generalist is a strategic professional who closely follows the latest trends in their field and adapts them for application within their role and the business. Recognised as a subject matter expert in a key area, this role requires:

  • Strong commercial awareness as a necessity
  • Authority both within and outside their area of expertise
  • Specialised but limited take within the organisation (few peers with equivalent expertise)

This position demands advanced analytical judgment and in-depth quantitative or qualitative analysis to solve complex problems and innovate new, sophisticated lending structures. The role has significant business impact, shaping technical strategies and decision-making frameworks.


Key Responsibilities

The Lending Advisor Generalist oversees the origination, structuring, and close of lending facilities for private banking clients. Key duties include:

  • Client Coverage & Origination:

    • Work with Private Bankers to complete due diligence, underwriting, approval, and closing documentation for new lending facilities
    • Drive the marketing and sales of all authorised product lines (e.g., capital markets, secured/structured lending) in collaboration with private banking partners
    • Engage in client-facing activities (teleperformance, account maintenance, transaction discussions) to anticipate and meet client needs
  • Credit & Deal Structuring:

    • Foster sound credit judgment and ensure structuring, product selection, and execution align with client needs, business targets, and risk policies
    • Maximise revenue generation while sustaining responsible, profitable lending growth (achieving minimum return targets)
    • Comply with Citi Risk Policy, Credit Policy, and APPs (Approach to Product Development); ensure covenant appeal and documentation alignment
  • Deal Management:

    • Define and direct analytical activities of the deal team
    • Negotiate credit frameworks (terms, covenants, collateral, effective dates)
    • Oversee the preparation of credit memos (including capital allocation assessments)
    • Author Credit Approval write-up for new deals, annual reviews, and amendments
  • Documentation & Settlement:

    • Lead negotiation, execution, and compliance tracking of lending agreements
    • Coordinate with internal Risk, Legal, and External Counsel to ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements
    • Handle early anomaly detection, risk classification, and appropriate flagging

  • Problem Management & Remediation:

    • Lead or participate in analytical remediation activities (e.g., internal monitoring or regulatory incidents)
    • Conduct due diligence on relationships as part of periodic reviews
    • Deploy recovery solutions (e.g., amends) or recommend special mention assessments when necessary
  • Reputation & Compliance Commitment:

    • Assess and align client requests with business needs, risk, compliance, and ethical standards
    • Adhere to Citi’s CRA & PDMA Services Mandates; communicate effectively with stakeholders (business teams, internal auditors, regulators, government bodies)
    • Spot early warning signs and escalate to management for swift resolution

Note: This role operates under the Certified Role Regime (subject to the Individual Accountability Regime); candidates will undergo strict fitness, character, and criminal record vetting.


Requirements

  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5+ years specialising in a credit product or lending solution expertise
    • Proven track record in credit origination, risk structuring, relationship management (executive/officer level clients preferred)
  • Technical Competencies:
    • Financial modelling (cash-flow, collateral valuations) and spreadsheet proficiency
    • Risk(s) and compliance in banking, corporate finance/lending strategies
    • Fluency in prod-gram/facility structuring and execution tools (e.g., loan covenants, term sheets)
    • Deep understanding of securitisation, asset finance, credit derivatives, or CAPM lending solutions
  • Soft Skills:
    • Persistent negotiation abilities; mastering external client interactions while performing high-level internal engagement (e.g., C-suite feedback)
    • Architecture flexible opinions, altruistic emotional intelligence, to penetrate markets or business processes divergent to mission
    • Complianceal Integrity with diligence obligations and ethical behavior
  • Required Certifications (or proof of tracking):
    • Knowledge of relevant risk frameworks, internal audits, regulatory reforms (as applicable for your region/international work)
