Royal Greenwich – Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Team

About the Role

Royal Greenwich Mental Health is seeking enthusiastic, driven Senior Social Workers/Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) or experienced Level 1 Social Workers (with willingness to train into the AMHP role) to join our forward-thinking Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Team.

Key Focus of the EIP Team

The EIP Team delivers assessment, treatment, and support for individuals within the Greenwich borough experiencing psychosis for the first time. Our community-based model provides specialist intervention for up to three years, promoting hope, optimism, and recovery through:

  • Person-centred, evidence-based interventions
  • Tailored support for service users and their networks
  • Discharge planning to primary care (GP), secondary mental health teams, or alternative EIP services as needed

The team operates with a strong ethos of hope and thrives on evidence-backed outcomes, supported by annotual audit results demonstrating high performance.


Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Work autonomously with individuals, carers, and families to deliver strengths-based, person-centred interventions that promote mental health wellbeing.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory frameworks:
    • Care Act 2014
    • Mental Capacity Act 2005
    • Mental Health Act 1983 (2007)
    • Children Act 1989 (2004)
  • Manage a caseload effectively while collaborating with service users, families, and carers.
  • Engage with multidisciplinary teams, including:
    • Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Support Workers, Lived Experienced Practitioners, Cumulity Psychiatric Nurses, and Administrative Staff

Senior Social Work/AMHP-Specific Responsibilities

  • Guide social care interventions for service users, families, and carers
  • Conduct Care Act assessments, support planning, and reviews under 2014 legislation
  • Perform AMHP duties (pro-rata), collaborating with the Greenwich Central AMHP Team
  • Manage Safeguarding Adults/Children procedures, including:
    • Acting as Safeguarding Adults Manager, Enquiry Officer, MARAC Representative, or Think Family Champion (where applicable)
  • Engage with disengaged and excluded groups (e.g., individuals with nil recourse to public funds, drug/alcohol dependence)
  • Participate in Section 117 discharge and care planning processes
  • Strengthen interagency collaboration by networking with local authorities, housing providers, third-sector organisations, and community support groups
  • Maintain statutory documentation and reports within defined timescales
  • Attend mandatory and specialised training to maintain competence

Support for AMHP Training (for Experienced Social Workers)

Royal Greenwich provides comprehensive support to alternative develop your AMHP qualification, including:

  • Proforma 3 with paid AMHP post-assessment supervision
  • AMHP mentor for the first year
  • 18 educational hours (3 days) of AMHP training annually
  • Structured AMHP induction into our service
  • Every 5 years: Up to 2 days for AMHP re-authorisation
  • Scholarship for practice education in both social work and AMHP fields
  • AMHP and Social Work Forums for peer reflection and professional supervision
  • Protected time for Social Work England registration updates and mandatory professional development
  • Access to ** centred training, in-house workshops, and events** via the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Learning Portal

Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Registered Social Work qualification
  • AMHP qualification (if applying for the Senior Social Worker/AMHP role)
  • Membership of Social Work England
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

Experience Considered

  • Working in Early Intervention in Psychosis, adult mental health, or community-based care
  • Proficiency in person-centred, community-based approaches to mental health
