Entry Level Technical Support Position

This is an entry-level position on the technical support side of the business. The role will be workshop-based and will involve basic technical tasks and responsibilities to start, with a view to building skillset, knowledge, and experience over time, to take on tasks independently and build in complexity.

Role Overview

The role will be workshop-based with a day release to college to obtain greater learning and academia with a view to obtaining the technical qualification that supports this role. The role will involve basic technical tasks and responsibilities to start with, with a view to building skillset, knowledge, and experience over time, to take on tasks independently and build in complexity. The role will also involve looking after workshop and yard cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting with servicing
  • Conducting MOT washes
  • Supporting with inspections and MOT preparation
  • Supporting with technical and repairs
  • Carrying out basic tasks such as changing light bulbs on vehicles, etc.
  • Sweeping up in the yard and workshop
  • Fetching parts from suppliers and other sites as needed

Apprenticeship Details

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Course Contents

  • Carry out the basic tasks with tools and equipment common to all procedures involving basic mechanical and electrical procedures related to HV
  • The ability to keep updated with emerging new technologies within the HV industry
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop and adhere to the company and legislative processes
  • Access specific and related HV technical information appropriately
  • The ability to service, inspect and maintain HVs and trailers to meet company, Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and manufacturers’ standards
  • Use a range of diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment to identify faults and underlying causes on HV’s
  • Successfully inspect and prepare vehicles and trailers to meet DVSA standards prescribed in the tester’s manual
  • Carry out final quality checks before handover to the customer without supervision
  • Apply advanced diagnostic principles and logical/problem-solving techniques and regimes
  • Maintain records to company and operators’ licence obligations and regulation
  • To be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums both internally and with customers on a range of topics that will support, HV inspection, and diagnosing techniques

College Attendance

College attendance will be 1 day a week at Peterborough College plus an additional portfolio workshop session once every 2 months to support you with uploading your work-based evidence.

About M & N Vehicle Services Ltd

M & N Vehicle Services Ltd are an independent workshop that can service and repair any make of car, van, or truck. We provide complete fleet support or single vehicle solutions for Car and Commercial users in the Peterborough and surrounding areas.

We have three sites in total – all based in Fengate, Peterborough. Across all our workshop sites, we employ approximately 40 employees, comprising mainly of Technicians, Service support, and administration.
