Level 3 SEND Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship - Beacon Hill Academy

We work closely with pupils, families, and multi-disciplinary professionals to deliver meaningful and challenging learning experiences, enabling all learners to achieve their full potential and develop independence and confidence.

We are seeking enthusiastic and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant Apprentices to join our team. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with additional needs and are eager to develop their skills within a specialist educational setting.

Apprenticeship Summary:

  • Salary: £8.00 per hour
  • Working Week: Monday to Friday, 8:45am - 3:30pm (including a 30-minute break)
  • Hours: 31.25 hours per week
  • Online apprenticeship training supported by experienced tutors
  • Level 3 SEND Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship standard qualification
  • Location: Beacon Hill Academy, Erriff Drive, South Ockendon, Essex, RM15 5AY (with potential placement at Post-16 Provision, Buxton Road, Grays, Essex)

Start Date: September 2026

The Role:

As a SEND Teaching Assistant Apprentice, you will support pupils with severe and complex learning needs to access learning and develop independence. You will work closely with teachers and other professionals to deliver engaging activities, provide personal and educational support, and contribute to a safe and positive learning environment.

Main Duties:

  • Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups across a range of learning activities
  • Assist in promoting pupils' physical, emotional, and educational development
  • Help implement individual learning programmes and therapy plans under supervision
  • Support pupils with communication needs using strategies such as Signalong and specialist ICT
  • Assist with personal care, feeding programmes, and mobility (including manual handling where trained)
  • Support the use of specialist equipment and ensure it is maintained and used safely
  • Promote positive behaviour in line with the Academy's policies and individual support plans
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff
  • Assist in preparing classroom resources and maintaining a stimulating learning environment
  • Supervise pupils during break times, activities, and educational visits
  • Support pupils in accessing community-based learning and life skills activities
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils at all times

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be caring, patient, and committed to supporting children with additional needs. They will demonstrate a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and the ability to build strong relationships with pupils and staff.

Skills and Experience:

  • GCSEs at grades A*-C / 9-4 (or equivalent) in Maths and English
  • Basic understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, and confidentiality
  • Knowledge or interest in special educational needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to use initiative and follow instructions
  • ICT skills (including willingness to learn specialist equipment)
  • Professional, reliable, and enthusiastic approach

Training and Development:

As an apprentice, you will receive comprehensive support through on-the-job training and structured learning. This will include:

  • Study towards a Level 3 SEND Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship qualification
  • Mentoring and guidance from experienced staff and specialists
  • Training in communication strategies, behaviour support, and specialist care techniques
  • Regular progress reviews and development opportunities

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end? The successful candidate will achieve a Level 3 SEND Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship standard qualification.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship? There may be an opportunity for full-time employment within the Academy for the right candidate upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

The company also completes an internal online social media search, in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.
