Role Description
This is a self-employed, part-time, remote role for Liability and Quantum Expert Witnesses based in England and Wales.
For Quantum, we are looking for Occupational Therapists both adult and paediatric, with experience in any of the following:
- Visual and Hearing Impairment
- Neurological conditions/injuries, particularly stroke and brain injury
- Complex musculoskeletal conditions/injuries
- Spinal Injury
- Setting up and managing care packages
- Community Rehabilitation
- Cancer and Palliative Care
- Sepsis and complications of such, particularly bladder and bowel injury
- Amputation
- Birth injury, particularly cerebral palsy

The quantum role involves completion of an assessment in the person’s home, then reviewing clinical records, case documentation, and relevant evidence to form balanced, evidence-based opinions on needs and providing quantification of the identified needs in complex and catastrophic clinical negligence and personal injury cases.
For Liability, we require nurses with specialist skills in accident and emergency, falls and orthopaedics, mental health nursing, district nursing, and tissue viability in particular. The role involves reviewing clinical records, case documentation, and relevant evidence to form balanced, evidence-based opinions on breach of duty and causation in complex and catastrophic clinical negligence cases.
The post holders will prepare clear, structured expert witness reports that stand up to legal scrutiny and comply with relevant procedural rules and professional standards.
Day-to-day responsibilities include completion of assessments (Quantum only), writing reports, attending conferences with solicitors and legal teams, participating in joint expert meetings, and giving oral evidence in court when required. The role also requires maintaining up-to-date clinical and legal knowledge, adhering to Harrison Associates’ governance framework, and collaborating with case managers and other health professionals to ensure consistency and clarity across instructions.
Qualifications / Criteria
- Strong clinical expertise and experience in managing complex injury cases as an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or speech and language therapist.
- Must have at least 8 years of post-qualification clinical experience in an appropriate area.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to review and interpret medical records, care plans, and multidisciplinary evidence.
- Advanced written communication skills, with proven ability to draft clear, structured, and defensible reports for legal proceedings.
- Confident verbal communication and presentation skills, including experience or readiness to give oral evidence in court and engage with legal professionals.
- Strong understanding of clinical governance, professional ethics, and relevant legal and procedural frameworks (e.g., civil procedure rules, duty to the court).
- High level of professional integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail, with the ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple instructions.
- Ability to work collaboratively with solicitors, insurers, case management providers, and the HA teams, while maintaining independence of opinion.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development, supervision, and training, including keeping clinical knowledge and medico-legal practice.
