Librarian

School Librarian – Stowupland High School

Reference: 5259

Location Stowupland High School, Stowmarket, Suffolk IP14 4BQ

Salary £23,340 per annum, Grade 4, Scale Point 9 - 14

Hours 37 hours per week (term time plus Professional Development days)

Contract Permanent Start Date: September 2026


About the Role

We are seeking a passionate, creative, and highly organised School Librarian to lead, manage, and transform our library resource centre at Stowupland High School.

We believe the library is the beating heart of our school community—a dynamic space where curiosity is sparked and a culture of reading is celebrated.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and develop the library as a vital learning and cultural hub for the school.
  • Foster and sustain a strong culture of reading and appreciation for literature.
  • Oversee the organisation, maintenance, and expansion of a diverse range of resources.
  • Collaborate with teachers, students, and staff to enhance subject knowledge, literacy, and digital literacy.
  • Play an active role in promoting inquiry-based learning and research skills.
  • Support student welfare, including reading promotion and personalised learning.

Person Specification

  • Passion for libraries and learning with a drive to inspire students.
  • Excellent organisational skills to manage resources and staff positions.
  • The ability to lead and motivate students, colleagues, and communities.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining an engaging library space.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Software proficiency (e.g., Library Management Systems, databases) is advantageous.
  • Experience working in an educational environment is desirable but not essential.

Candidate Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS Check requirement for all successful applicants.
  • Compliance with Oxlip Learning Partnership safeguarding and welfare standards.
