Librarian and Literacy Coordinator

The Role
The Librarian and Literacy Coordinator plays a pivotal strategic role in promoting a culture of reading, learning, and academic excellence across the school. This position blends effective management of the library and learning resource centre with leadership of whole-school literacy initiatives, ensuring students develop essential reading, writing, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities

Leading Literacy Strategy
- Collaborate with teaching staff and senior leaders to design, implement, and evaluate a whole-school literacy strategy.
- Raise standards and support student progress across all subjects.
- Provide guidance on effective literacy teaching (reading, writing, oracy).
- Monitor student progress and deliver targeted interventions for all learners, including those with additional needs.

Managing the Library as a Learning Hub
- Curate a diverse and inclusive range of resources supporting the curriculum and students’ broader interests.
- Foster an environment for independent learning, curiosity, and intellectual engagement.
- Promote reading for pleasure through initiatives like:
- Reading programmes
- Author visits
- Literacy events
- Student-led activities
