Casual Library Customer Advisor – Nottingham City Libraries
Contract Type: Casual Working Hours: Various (shifts across 6 days per week) Salary: £13.26 per hour Location: Any Nottingham City Library
We’re looking for talented and passionate individuals to join our team at Nottingham City Libraries. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a casual basis across multiple sites, helping to shape an inclusive and vibrant library experience for all.
What the Role Entails
The Casual Library Customer Advisor plays a key role in ensuring Nottingham's libraries are welcoming, inclusive, and engaging for users of all ages. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing exceptional customer service to visitors, ensuring a positive experience.
- Supporting and encouraging higher engagement with library services through guidance and resources.
- Assisting in promoting literacy, wellbeing, and educational initiatives – including delivering activities in collaboration with colleagues, volunteers, and community partners.
- Enhancing the vibrant library spaces and reflecting local needs.
About You
To succeed in this role, we’re looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
- Customer service excellence – experience in helping the public in a positive and approachable way.
- Strong communication skills – confidently Handling a range of enquiries (in person, over the phone, or online).
- IT proficiency – bold and basic computer skills.
- The ability to process library stock, arrange shelves, and file efficiently.
- Experience (or a willingness to learn) in promoting and delivering programmes or events consistently.
- Teamwork – enthusiasm for collaborating with colleagues and community groups.
- Flexibility – willingness to cover shifts at different Nottingham City Libraries.

Essential Requirements
- Fluent English – due to the statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016), you must be able to speak English confidently.
- Enhanced DBS Check must be obtained for this regulated post.
