Library Manager | 10799 | Permanent Contract | 37 hours per week | £34,434 to £36,363 per annum (Scale H) | Great Yarmouth and Martham Library Cluster
As a Library Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day running of one or more library sites, leading staff and volunteers to deliver excellent customer service and a varied programme of activities. You will help shape the library’s role at the heart of the local community, working closely with partners and community groups to meet local needs.
This role is based at Great Yarmouth Library, a shared community space working alongside multiple partners. You will have responsibility for overseeing the building and ensuring it remains a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment. The library is at the heart of a diverse community and plays a key role in supporting residents with a wide range of needs.
You will also be responsible for Martham Library, a smaller library serving a well-established village community. This site offers the opportunity to work more closely with local residents and community groups, ensuring the library continues to meet the needs of its community while complementing the wider service offer.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and supporting staff and volunteers to provide a friendly, professional and efficient service.
- Managing rotas, staffing requirements and daily operational tasks.
- Ensuring the library is welcoming, inclusive and safe, with a strong focus on safeguarding practices and customer wellbeing.
- Providing signposting and support for customers on a range of issues, helping them access relevant information, services and community resources.
- Working proactively with local community groups, schools, partner organisations and other council services to develop outreach, events and activities that benefit residents.
- Overseeing stock presentation, digital resources, building management and library spaces.
- Delivering and promoting activities that support reading, digital confidence, creativity and health and wellbeing.
- Monitoring performance, collecting data and contributing to service planning and continuous improvement.
- Handling challenging situations and customer interactions with calmness and sensitivity, supporting staff to respond confidently, and using strong communication and de-escalation skills to maintain a safe, respectful and welcoming environment in a busy public-facing setting.

About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience leading people or teams, with the ability to motivate and support staff and volunteers.
- Communicates clearly and confidently with a wide range of customers, partners and community groups.
- Is committed to safeguarding and understands how to recognise and respond to concerns appropriately.
- Is calm, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities in a busy public-facing environment.
- Is confident using digital tools and supporting customers of all ages to build their digital skills.
- Enjoys working collaboratively and is committed to delivering inclusive, community-focused services.
- Brings enthusiasm, initiative and a positive approach to problem-solving and service development.
Experience in a library or similar frontline environment is helpful, but full training will be provided. A genuine passion for community engagement and public service is essential.
