Role Description

This full-time Licensed Optician role is an on-site position located at LensCrafters in Crossgates. The Licensed Optician will interpret prescriptions, assist patients in selecting frames and lenses, and ensure proper fitting, measurements, and adjustments for optimal vision and comfort. The role involves collaborating closely with doctors of optometry and store leadership to support clinical excellence, outstanding customer service, and compliance with state licensing regulations. The Licensed Optician will also help maintain a clean, organized optical area and contribute to sales goals through ethical, needs-based recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Active state optician license in good standing and eligibility to practice as a Licensed Optician
  • Technical optical skills, including prescription interpretation, lens selection, frame fitting, measurements (PD, segment height), adjustments, and repairs
  • Customer and patient service skills, including clear communication, empathy, active listening, and the ability to educate patients on lens features and benefits
  • Retail and sales skills, including consultative selling, product knowledge, and ability to meet or exceed store performance and quality goals
  • Organization and accuracy skills, including attention to detail, recordkeeping, order verification, and adherence to safety and quality standards
  • Ability to work on-site full time in Crossgates, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Comfort working with digital tools and optical equipment; familiarity with practice management or point-of-sale systems is beneficial
  • Previous experience as an optician or in optical retail is preferred; additional certifications (ABO/NCLE) are a plus
