At Serco, we're pleased to be recruiting on behalf of Maidstone Leisure Trust.
About the Role
Maidstone Leisure Trust encourages active, healthy lifestyles across the local community. Providing affordable access to a wide range of sports and leisure facilities in a safe, clean, friendly and welcoming space, their goal is to support healthier and happier lives for everyone. Delivering these services relies on an enthusiastic, customer-focused team, and they're now looking for a Full Time Lifeguard to join their team and help make a positive difference every day.
As a Lifeguard you’ll be an important part of life here at the centre as you ensure that everyone can use the pool in safety and that they have access to everything they need to enjoy their visit. You will be providing customer care to people of all ages, supervising activities, maintaining high standards of cleanliness in the pool area, and ensuring the safe handling and set up of pool equipment. And of course, when needed – you’ll help to save lives. Without you there can’t be any pool activity. But you won’t be working alone. Our leisure centre has a close-knit and supportive team, all working towards providing an inclusive leisure hub for the entire community. You will also receive fantastic training and development opportunities and benefits including free leisure access and other various discounts.
About You
You’ll need to have excellent customer service skills as you’ll be interacting heavily with our customers. So, whether you’ve earned that experience in a leisure or another customer-facing environment, you’ll be a people person who is happy dealing with people of all ages and backgrounds. As a lifeguard you’ll naturally need to be safety conscious, vigilant, and able to deal with pressurised situations. Lastly, you’ll need to have strong swimming skills and it’s essential that you hold a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (Royal Life Saving Society).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
