Lifeguard & PE Support Assistant – St Michael’s CE Middle School
Role Title – Lifeguard & PE Support Assistant Contract Type – Part-Time, Temporary Hours – 10 hours per week ( Term-Time Only, 39 weeks per year) Weekday Pattern – Wednesday, Thursday & Friday (exact shifts to be discussed at interview) Starting Date – Approximately 1 September 2026 (temporary until 31 May 2027)
Salary & Benefits
- Annual Salary – £6,042 – £6,336 (pro-rated for hours/weeks worked, grade 6 pending)
- Paid Leave – Includes pro-rata annual leave & bank holiday entitlements
- Scope – UK-based role; requirement to establish Right to Work*
*Exceptions apply under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
About the Role
St Michael’s CE Middle School is seeking a reliable, dynamic, and energetic individual for a dual-role position:
- As a Lifeguard, ensure pupil safety during swimming lessons.
- As a Physical Education (PE) Support Assistant, empower teachers by delivering hands-on support during lessons.

Key Responsibilities
As a Lifeguard:
- Supervise and enforce safety protocols during swimming lessons.
- Prevent accidents, administer first aid (if trained), and undertake incident reporting as required.*

As a PE Support Assistant:
- Assist PE teachers with equipment preparation, organisation and maintenance.
- Support students with activity-based instruction and encourage engagement in lessons.
- Help mitigate risks during physical exercises and sports.
Requirements & Expectations
Essential:
- Commitment & Attendance – Reliable for term-time hours only ( Wednesday/Wed/Thu/Fri).
- First Aid Qualifications* – Mandatory for lifeguard duties (proof supplied at interview).
- Swimming Pool Experience – Basic ability to supervise pupils in water is advantageous.
- Teamwork & Pupil Care – Ability to work closely with teachers to support and enhance lessons.
- Associate Membership of DBS.ief
A Plus From You:
- Existing lifeguard certification (e.g., RLSS, HSE) or willingness to gain recognition.
- Experience with student injured pupils or disabilities.
*DBS checks and safeguarding checks are a legal requirement. School may conduct online searches to assess suitability for work with children.
