Department: Vertical Transportation
Lerch Bates is seeking a Lift Consultant to join our Vertical Transportation team. This role supports a broad range of projects involving lifts, escalators, moving walkways, modernisation programmes, equipment condition assessments, maintenance audits, design consulting, and contract administration services.
As a Lift Consultant, you will serve as a trusted advisor to building owners, managing agents, architects, contractors, and project teams by providing technical expertise and practical solutions throughout the lifecycle of vertical transportation projects.
This position is ideal for professionals with experience in the lift industry who enjoy solving complex technical challenges, managing projects, and building strong client relationships.

Project Management & Consulting
- Manage lift and vertical transportation projects from planning through completion.
- Deliver modernisation projects, condition assessments, maintenance audits, inspections, and contract administration services.
- Coordinate project scope, schedules, budgets, deliverables, and stakeholder communications.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, recommendations, and project documentation.
- Provide technical guidance relating to lifts, escalators, moving walkways, and associated systems.
- Monitor project progress and ensure quality standards and client expectations are achieved.

Client Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry partners.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor throughout project delivery.
- Identify opportunities to support clients with additional services.
- Participate in client meetings, presentations, and industry networking activities.
Technical Expertise
- Conduct equipment surveys, inspections, audits, and condition assessments.
- Review of maintenance contracts, performance data, and equipment lifecycle requirements.
- Prepare technical recommendations for repair, replacement, and modernisation programmes.
- Maintain knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, technologies, and industry best practices.
Site & Field Activities
- Carry out site visits to occupied buildings and construction projects.
- Attend project meetings and inspections as required.
- Follow all applicable health and safety requirements and site procedures.
- Travel throughout the UK as required to support project and client needs.
What You Will Bring
- Degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Building Services, Construction, or a related discipline.
- 3+ years of experience within the lift or vertical transportation industry.
- Experience with lift modernisation projects, maintenance audits, condition assessments, inspections, or technical consulting.
- Strong understanding of lifts, escalators, moving walkways, and associated systems.
- Knowledge of relevant UK regulations and standards, including EN 81, LOLER, PUWER, and Building Regulations.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to analyse technical information and develop practical recommendations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Willingness to travel as required.
