The Opportunity: Engineer Apprentice Programme
OTIS offers one of the most comprehensive apprenticeship schemes in the lift industry. As an Engineer Apprentice, you’ll:
- Gain hands-on experience within a strong team
- Earn an NVQ Level 3 qualification (essential for a career as a Lift and Escalator Engineer)
- Balance practical training with classroom-based learning
- Develop into a qualified Service Lift Engineer in three years, managing customer routes and ensuring smooth lift operations
Your development will be fully supported by OTIS and our apprenticeship partner.
What You’ll Do After Qualifying (Years 2–3)
As a Service Lift Engineer, you’ll:
- Perform regular service visits and repairs on assigned routes
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults
- Communicate effectively with customers about equipment status
- Ensure safety, efficiency, and uptime of elevators and escalators

Who We Are Looking For
You’ll thrive at OTIS if you embody the following:
Essential Requirements
- 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C/4 or above, including:
- Maths
- English
- One STEM-related subject (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths)
- Curiosity & proactivity – a willingness to learn and adapt
- Teamwork mindset – collaboration with colleagues is key
- Commitment to training – ability to attend all required apprenticeship sessions
- Must provide your own laptop for coursework
Nice-to-Have
- Previous experience in technical, engineering, or hands-on maintenance roles
- Strong problem-solving skills with an analytical approach
From Apprentice to Career: Your Progression Path
- Year 1 Salary: £16,416
- Year 2 Salary: £21,888
- Year 3 Salary: £30,096 (fully qualified as a Service Lift Engineer)
