Full-time (40 hours per week, 8:00am - 5:00pm)

Company Description

Re-Ropes, Part of WH Scott Group, are a UK industry leader in the supply and installation of high-quality elevator wire ropes and mechanical lift repairs. As specialists in our field, we carry out heavy repair works on behalf of both independent and multinational lift service companies, providing nationwide coverage.

Our scope of works includes:

  • Re-roping and re-belting of lifts
  • Installation of new machines
  • Removal of traction sheaves and diverters for bearing replacement and re-grooving
  • SAFed inspections
  • Motor rewinds
  • Renewal of oil seals and 'A' frame bearings

Role Purpose

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Lift Roping Surveyor to join our London-based engineering team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for surveying, assessing, and reporting on lift rope conditions, sheave and diverter wear, and bearing failure, as well as identifying safe working procedures and scaffold requirements to support our sales team.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Conduct on-site inspections and surveys of lift suspension ropes, belts, and associated components (sheaves, diverters, gears, motors)
  • Assess rope wear, tension, lubrication, alignment, and overall condition
  • Identify defects, compliance issues, and potential safety risks
  • Produce detailed and accurate survey reports, including photographic evidence and technical recommendations
  • Advise clients on rope replacement, maintenance requirements, and cost implications
  • Ensure all works comply with UK regulations and industry standards
  • Liaise with lift engineers, property managers, and contractors
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records
  • Travel across London and the surrounding areas as required
  • Complete service documentation and reports accurately
  • Represent the company and our customers professionally while working on site
  • Demonstrate excellent punctuality and timekeeping
  • Adapt to different working locations and site environments

Knowledge & Skills Required

  • Proven experience in lift roping and traction lift systems
  • NVQ Level 3 in Lift Installation/Maintenance (or equivalent) preferred
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to work at height and follow strict safety procedures
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • High level of health and safety awareness
  • Good understanding of rope construction and reeving arrangements
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Must live within a commutable distance of Erith and be able to travel across the South East
  • Conscientious with a natural attention to detail
  • Ability to carry out tasks in a professional manner
