Job Description

Due to continued growth we require a Lifting Appointed Person to join a landmark Energy project in Teesside.

As the Lifting Appointed Person, you will require an advanced understanding of a variety of lifting techniques, equipment and accessories. You will be responsible for overseeing lifting activities across the project. This will include personnel assessments and appointments; method selection; writing, reviewing, and auditing lift plans, whether lifting undertaken directly or through subcontractors to ensure compliance with industry standards, project guidance and the latest best practice.

This role will require oversight of various length cable and pipe bridge lifts, with various stakeholder interface such as Network Rail. You will be required to complete Network Rail’s track safety course to allow trackside oversight during complex lifting operations.

As the Lifting Appointed Person, you will be required to enter the pipeline tunnel running beneath the River Tees to audit rigging activities. This area is deemed a confined space to which Costain will provide the necessary training to support you in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and take control (where required) of the management of Lifting activities across the project.
  • Liaising with teams on the project to advise and contribute to lifting solutions.
  • Categorisation of lifts; devising lifting methods; equipment and accessory selection; then planning and producing Lift Plans where required.
  • Reviewing and auditing lift plans produced by subcontractors.
  • Issuing Permits to Lift.
  • Briefing the lifting teams on the planned works, any potential interfaces and the control measures and ensuring understanding is tested and recorded.
  • Monitor and inspection of lifting operations, where deemed necessary.
  • Oversee the keeping of all records and registers up to date including of inspections, lift plans and briefings.
  • Ensuring all Lifting operations are suitably covered by appropriate Temporary Works assessments.
  • Work with other disciplines such as the Lead Temporary Works Coordinator to ensure procedures and process are aligned.
  • Ensure all high-risk lifting operations are considered in well enough advance to afford sufficient time to mitigate as much risk as it reasonably practicable.
  • Keep abreast of best practice developments in the lifting professional and/or industrial field and communication of these through the Lifting team.
  • Set the highest example for Health and Safety Requirements.
  • Understand the Client and stakeholders' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project.
  • Review lifting teams’ performance by ratifying competence and adopting the Costain appointment process.

Essential

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrate sufficient experience in a similar role on a large-scale project.
  • CPCS A61 Appointed Person Blue Card.
  • CPCS A62 Lift Supervisor Blue Card.
  • NVQ L5 Diploma in Controlling Lift Operations.
  • NVQ L3 Diploma Moving Engineering Construction Loads.
  • Experience in planning and implementation of Lifting Operations.
  • Microsoft Office Literate.
  • Knowledge of LOLER1998 & BS7121.
  • Slinger Signaller/Crane Supervisor experience.
  • Comfortable in use of AutoCAD (2D).
  • Temporary Works experience (TWS/TWC).
  • CITB Temporary Works Supervisor.
  • Network Rail experience.
  • Network Rail Personal Track Safety (PTS).
  • NVQ L3 Confined Space.
  • CCNSG card holder.
