Location: Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute

Compensation: £29,658 to £35,169 Depending on Experience

Role Type: Full time / Permanent

Role ID: SF74930

Help keep the Royal Navy mission-ready through safe, specialist lifting operations.

At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Lifting Operations Slinger at HMNB Clyde, near Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled team supporting one of the United Kingdom’s most important naval bases. Working at the heart of fleet engineering operations, you'll help ensure critical maintenance, repairs and upgrades are completed safely and efficiently. Every lift you support contributes to the operational readiness of the Royal Navy, making this a rewarding role with real purpose, excellent career development opportunities and the chance to develop specialist skills within the defence engineering sector.

The role

As a Lifting Operations Slinger, you'll provide multi-skilled slinging and lifting operations support across HMNB Clyde, ensuring the safe movement of equipment, materials and components that are essential to fleet engineering activities. Working within a safety-focused environment, you'll collaborate with engineering teams and lifting specialists to deliver critical operational objectives while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and professionalism.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

  • Supporting lifting activities that enable planned maintenance and engineering work across the fleet.
  • Assisting with the movement of loads on and around vessels, jetties and operational areas.
  • Following safe systems of work, risk assessments and health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Collaborating with Lift Supervisors and engineering teams to deliver safe and efficient lifting operations.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, safety and productivity within lifting activities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
