Our Lighting and Energy Solutions (L&ES) business provides comprehensive lighting and electrical engineering design and advisory services for all aspects of light, lighting, and low-voltage energy. We work with clients across public and private sectors, locally and internationally.

About Your Role
We are seeking Lighting Engineers at all levels (Engineer to Principal Engineer) to support our Local Government and Strategic Road Network capabilities.
Key Responsibilities

Design & Documentation
- Produce detailed design layouts, engineering drawings, and support documentation compliant with WSP’s Quality Assurance and client requirements.
- Prepare feasibility reports, technical notes, optioneering reports, and specifications.

Client & Supplier Engagement
- Engage with luminaire, column, controls, and electrical manufacturers.
- Co-ordinate with contractors, respond to RFIs (Requests for Information) and TQs (Technical Queries), and conduct non-intrusive site visits.
- Develop lighting assessments and site clearance drawings.

Project & Client Liaison
- Support project proposals and adherence to programme milestones and budget constraints.
- Build strong relationships with Local Authority and Strategic Road Network clients.
- Analyze client briefs and provide expert, tailored guidance.

Team Development
- Guide junior team members and Early Career Professionals on their career journeys.
- Represent WSP in the lighting industry, fostering relationships and driving business development.

- Liaise with colleagues across Lighting & Energy Solutions, wider multi-disciplinary design teams, stakeholders, and clients.
Your Team
You’ll join a growing, multi-disciplinary, energetic team of lighting professionals, recognized for its expertise in:

- Strategic Road Network

Key Requirements
We look for candidates to demonstrate:

Technical Proficiency
- Proficient in Lighting Reality, DIALUX, and AutoCAD for lighting/electrical design.
- Strong understanding of external lighting standards, guidance, legislation, and regulations.

Indexical Competence
- Competency in lighting design from conception to construction, with hands-on experience in Lighting Reality/DIALUX + AutoCAD.

Soft Skills & Experience
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Experience in Local Government or Strategic Road Network sectors.
- Knowledge of external lighting products.

Professional Standing
- Membership (or progress) toward IEng/CEng for senior roles.
- Ability to coach/junior team development – essential for senior positions.
Senior-Specific Requirements
- Project/team leadership experience.
- Risk awareness in CDM and financial risk management.
- Proven ability to coach and develop team members.
