About the Role
We are recruiting for Lighting Engineers at levels ranging from Engineer to Principal Engineer, with a focus on supporting our Local Government and Strategic Road Network capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed design layouts, engineering drawings, and support documentation in line with WSP’s Quality Assurance standards and client specifications.
- Create feasibility reports, technical notes, optioneering documents, and specifications.
- Engage with luminaire, column, controls, and electrical manufacturers to ensure high-quality design execution.
- Coordinate with contractors, including site visits, and respond to RFIs (Requests for Information) and TQs (Technical Queries).
- Undertake non-intrusive site assessments to develop lighting reports and site clearance documentation.
- Support project proposal development and ensure alignment with programme timelines and budget constraints.
- Build strong relationships with Local Authority and Strategic Road Network clients.
- Analyze client briefs and provide expertise and tailored guidance.
- Collaborate within the L&ES team, cross-disciplinary groups, stakeholders, and clients.
- Mentor junior team members and Early Career Professionals in their career growth.
- Represent WSP within the lighting industry, fostering relationships and driving business opportunities.

Key Requirements
Here’s what we’re looking for:
For All Roles:
- Proficiency in Lighting Reality/Dialux software and AutoCAD for design.
- In-depth knowledge of external lighting standards, guidelines, and regulations.
- Solid understanding of electrical design and lighting maintenance operations.
- Demonstrated lighting design experience from conception to construction, utilizing industry-essential software.
- Strong ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, showcasing superior communication and organizational skills.
- Coaching and team development experience.
- Relevant work experience in Local Government or Strategic Road Network sectors.
- Knowledge of external lighting products.
- Membership (or progress toward it) in a professional lighting organization (e.g., IEng/CEng status for senior roles).
