**Lighting Engineer Opportunities – WSP

About the Role

Our Lighting and Energy Solutions (L&ES) business provides expert lighting and electrical engineering design, advisory services, and sustainability solutions worldwide. Whether working on commercial, urban, transportation, or infrastructure projects, you’ll be part of pioneering work that delivers real-world benefits.

Team & Locations

Our lighting specialists work across key UK hubs, including:

  • Birmingham
  • Cardiff
  • Glasgow
  • Hertfordshire
  • Leeds
  • Liverpool
  • London
  • Manchester
  • Newcastle
  • Southampton
  • Brighton

You’ll collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team, including Electrical & EV, Environmental, Local Government, Architectural, and Strategic Road Network specialists, while benefiting from:

  • Access to a global network of lighting experts.
  • Support for professional memberships (mentorship available for career progression).
  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD) sessions and training programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Documentation
    • Produce detailed lighting layouts, electrical drawings, and support documentation in line with WSP’s Quality Assurance standards.
    • Develop feasibility reports, technical notes, and optioneering specs.

  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement

    • Collaborate with luminaire suppliers, controls manufacturers, and contractors.
    • Provide site support, responding to RFIs, TQs, and technical queries.
    • Conduct non-intrusive site surveys for lighting assessments and compliance checks.
  • Project & Team Management

    • Support project proposals, tracking progress against milestones, budgets, and stakeholder demands.
    • Build strong partnerships with Local Authority & Strategic Road Network clients.
  • Technical Expertise & Leadership

    • Deliver bespoke lighting solutions based on client briefs.
    • Guide junior team members (both professionals and Early Career Professionals).
    • Represent WSP at industry events, fostering business growth and networking opportunities.

What You’ll Bring

Essential

  • Proficiency in Lighting Reality/Dialux and AutoCAD.
  • Strong knowledge of external lighting standards, legislation, and maintenance operations.
  • Hands-on experience in lighting design (conception to construction composite).
  • Self-drive with excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior colleagues.
  • Experience in Local Government or Strategic Road Network sectors.
  • Professional accreditation (e.g., IEng status for senior roles) or progress toward it.

For Senior Roles

  • Proven track record in project/team management.
  • Risk awareness in finance (budget mitigation) and CDM compliance.
  • Capacity to lead, delegate, and develop teams.
