Linux Infrastructure Engineer – SC Cleared

Permanent or Contract | Hybrid (40% onsite) | Infrastructure & Cloud | SC Cleared

At Peregrine, we're always seeking Specialist Talent that have the ideal mix of skills, experience, and attitude to place with our diverse portfolio of clients across the public and private sectors. We are currently looking for an experienced Linux Infrastructure Engineer to join a high-performing technology team supporting critical enterprise Linux platforms and infrastructure services.

The role:

You'll be responsible for supporting, maintaining and improving enterprise Linux infrastructure across a range of business-critical platforms. Working within a collaborative infrastructure team, you'll deliver both BAU support and continuous improvement initiatives, helping to modernise Linux environments whilst ensuring high levels of availability, security and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Provision and administer Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8–10) environments across physical and virtual infrastructure.
  • Perform in-place operating system upgrades using the LEAPP upgrade tool.
  • Develop automation scripts to support configuration management, monitoring, deployment and operational activities.
  • Support BAU operations whilst contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend improvements to infrastructure delivery processes and operational procedures.
  • Provide Linux technical expertise to project managers and wider technology teams.
  • Plan and prioritise infrastructure delivery activities across multiple workstreams.
  • Support disaster recovery and business continuity activities.
  • Work within ITIL service management processes, including Incident, Change and Problem Management.
  • Maintain secure, stable and highly available Linux environments.

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7–10) production environments.
  • Commercial scripting experience for automation and systems administration.
  • Experience supporting Linux environments hosted on VMware.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience planning and prioritising infrastructure delivery activities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong customer-focused approach with the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Experience working within ITIL service management environments.
  • Experience managing systems using Red Hat Satellite.
  • Ability to work under pressure whilst delivering high-quality technical solutions.
  • Experience with risk management, security, compliance and operational governance.

Desirable skills:

  • JBoss administration.
  • Linux performance tuning.
  • Linux failover clustering.
  • Kerberos authentication and Active Directory integration.
  • Cisco UCS hardware.
  • Puppet or similar configuration management tools.
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning.
  • Resource and workload management.
  • Knowledge of big data technologies such as Hadoop or Hortonworks.
  • Experience managing third-party suppliers and engineers.
