PQE - 3 YEARS +

Ortus Group has been exclusively retained by a highly regarded West End law firm to recruit an ambitious Litigation Associate to join its growing disputes team.

If you're looking for a firm that combines high-quality City-calibre work with genuine work-life balance, this could be one of the most refreshing opportunities in the London market. This is a firm where people genuinely enjoy coming to work. The culture is built on trust, collaboration, and flexibility, rather than spreadsheets and chargeable hour targets.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

  • 60% Property Litigation
  • 40% Commercial Litigation

However, the long-term vision is for this role to develop into a predominantly commercial litigation practice.

The firm has an established corporate team that regularly generates commercial disputes, creating significant opportunities to build your own practice while continuing to work alongside experienced litigators.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys client contact and wants to play an active role in the future growth of a successful litigation department.

Who They're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have experience across both property and commercial litigation and be excited by the opportunity to help grow the commercial disputes offering.

The firm is particularly keen to meet lawyers who:

  • Enjoy building relationships with clients and intermediaries
  • Have the energy and ambition to contribute to business development
  • Want to help grow a practice rather than simply manage a caseload
  • Value collaboration over internal competition
  • Are looking for a long-term home within a supportive and entrepreneurial firm

Why This Role?

There are plenty of firms offering good-quality litigation work. Few combine that with the culture on offer here.

You'll benefit from:

  • Excellent quality work from day one
  • A genuinely supportive and friendly team
  • Flexibility built on trust rather than presenteeism
  • Hybrid working
  • Annual discretionary bonus
  • Competitive salary
  • The opportunity to shape and grow the firm's commercial litigation offering
  • A culture where people are trusted to manage their own workload

One of the team's highest-performing lawyers is based outside of London, which speaks volumes about the firm's flexible approach and focus on outcomes rather than office attendance.

If you're an ambitious litigator looking to join a firm where you can develop your practice, enjoy your work, and be trusted to do what you do best, we'd love to hear from you.
