LM Re Performance Management and Underwriting Governance Lead

About the Role:
As the LM Re Performance Management and Underwriting Governance Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring consistent, disciplined underwriting practices across global LM Re. You will develop, maintain, and oversee the implementation of underwriting policies, authority frameworks, referral protocols, and peer review processes, working closely with underwriting teams, the Underwriting Governance function and second-line functions to support strong risk-taking aligned with appetite.
This role is pivotal in embedding underwriting excellence across products and geographies while supporting the CUO’s mandate to deliver a high-quality portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Underwriting Governance & Frameworks
Maintain and enhance the underwriting authority framework, ensuring it reflects current business appetite and regulatory standards. Coordinate the underwriting referral process, including thresholds, documentation requirements, and support reporting and committee oversight. Own the underwriting policy and procedural documentation across lines of business.
Legal Entity / Performance Management Requirements
Monitor premium vs plan monthly, submitting a premium income request when necessary. Work with underwriting teams to submit the Lloyd’s business plan annually, including the Syndicate Business Forecast (SBF) Business Plan Narrative. Develop and lead the annual Class Underwriting Framework (CUF) reviews. Act as a first point of contact for all legal entity requirements for LM Re and support with reporting obligations.
Underwriting Oversight & Peer Review
Develop and lead the underwriting file review and post-bind peer review process. Identify process gaps or inconsistencies and work with underwriters and management to close them, both pre-bind and post-bind. Monitor adherence to pricing tools, appetite guides, and referral protocols.
Change & Implementation
Work with Underwriting, Finance, Actuarial, Risk, MI, and Operations to ensure governance requirements are embedded in systems and workflows. Support rollout and embedding of new underwriting tools, templates, or risk appetite changes.

Stakeholder Collaboration
Collaborate with Risk, Compliance, Audit, Legal, Finance, Actuarial, Operations and GRS Office of Underwriting to ensure alignment between underwriting practices, regulatory requirements, and the enterprise risk framework. Act as a first point of contact for LM Re underwriting governance queries or internal reviews related to underwriting practices. Foster a strong collaborative partnership with the Underwriting Governance function, ensuring alignment on frameworks, tools, and standards, while effectively representing LM Re’s needs and feedback to shape governance initiatives. Provide governance reporting to the Head of Underwriting Alignment and CUO. Compliance with all applicable internal and external laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidance, and adhere to underwriting standards, instructions, and best‑practice methodologies to minimise risk. Adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements forms part of your role, and the demonstration of behaviours as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, as they relate to your role, is core to LSM's commitment to our Liberty Values, placing customers at the centre of our business and behaving with integrity. LSM expects you to understand your responsibilities relating to all regulatory and internal requirements, and to proactively demonstrate compliance with these requirements and behaviours at all times. These requirements include the Senior Managers and Certification Regime Conduct Rules, Solvency II, fair treatment of customers, Financial Crime, Data Protection, Conflicts of Interest, and Whistleblowing.
Skills and Experience:
Experience in (re)insurance or commercial insurance. An understanding of underwriting processes, authority controls, and risk appetite frameworks. Experience in implementing governance structures or process improvement within a regulated environment. Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders across functions. Strong analytical, organisational, reporting and communication skills, with the ability to synthesise complex information into clear, concise insights for senior stakeholders, and manage and prioritise multiple initiatives simultaneously. High attention to detail and a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach. Able to achieve goals independently and as part of a high-performing team.
