G3 Systems Ltd is seeking experienced Challenger 2 Loaders to support our Client in the delivery of the Challenger 3 Main Battle Tank Trials Programme.
This is a unique opportunity to become part of one of the UK's most significant armoured vehicle programmes, working alongside military and industry specialists to support the development, testing and validation of the British Army's next generation Main Battle Tank.
Successful candidates will undertake structured Challenger 3 conversion training before participating in a comprehensive programme of vehicle, weapons and mobility trials across multiple UK locations.
The Role
As a Challenger 3 Loader, you will play a critical role within the vehicle crew, supporting the safe and effective operation of Challenger 3 during developmental and verification trials.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operating Challenger 3 in accordance with authorised procedures, training and Crew Handbook requirements.
- Carrying out Loader duties during mobility, systems and live firing trials.
- Supporting Level 1 maintenance activities and, where qualified, assisting with higher-level maintenance tasks.
- Accurately recording faults, observations and supporting engineering root cause investigations.
- Working closely with engineers, trial managers and fellow crew members to deliver successful trial activities.
- Maintaining the highest standards of safety, professionalism and military discipline throughout all activities.
- Travelling to various UK trial locations as required, including sites at Telford, Bovington, Kirkcudbright and other authorised test facilities.

About You
We are looking for experienced former British Army Challenger 2 crew members who are committed to maintaining the highest professional standards.
Essential Requirements
- Former trained Challenger 2 Loader.
- Demonstrable experience conducting live firing on Challenger 2 within British Army training areas.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Strong safety awareness and disciplined approach to operating armoured vehicles.
- Physically fit and capable of undertaking Loader duties, including ammunition handling.
- Ability to obtain or hold UK Security Clearance (SC).
Desirable Experience
Applications are particularly welcomed from individuals who have:
- Recent Challenger 2 operational or training experience.
- Experience as a full Challenger 2 Crewman (Driver, Gunner and Loader).
- Military instructional experience such as Regimental Instructor Gunner (RIG), Gunnery Instructor or Driving & Maintenance Instructor (DMI).
- Previous experience supporting military equipment trials or defence industry programmes.
- Experience with the Army Trials Unit (ATU) or Armoured Trials & Development Unit (ATDU).
Training
Successful candidates will complete an intensive onboarding and Challenger 3 conversion programme at our Client’s Telford facility (approximately six weeks), including:
- Programme induction
- Challenger 2 competency assessment
- Challenger 3 conversion training
- Simulator and synthetic training
- Practical vehicle training
Location
This is a fully site-based position.
Your permanent home location will be either:
- Bovington Camp, Dorset
- Kirkcudbright Training Centre, Scotland
Travel to alternative trial locations across the UK will be required throughout the programme.
Travel & Expenses
Travel between your home and designated home site is your responsibility.
When business requires you to work away from your home location, G3 Systems will provide travel and subsistence in accordance with company policy.

Security Clearance
Applicants must be capable of obtaining Security Check (SC) clearance.
Candidates may commence employment following successful BPSS clearance whilst full SC clearance is processed.
Occupational Health
Due to the nature of this role, successful candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment and ongoing occupational health assessments, including medical surveillance relevant to operating armoured vehicles.
