Nosterfield Sand and Gravel Quarry, North Yorkshire

Monday – Thursday: 6:30am – 5:15pm | Friday: 6:30am – 4:30pm (1-hour break)

Are you an experienced Loading Shovel Operative looking for your next opportunity?

At Tarmac, we are looking for a motivated and safety-focused individual to join our friendly team at Nosterfield Sand and Gravel Quarry in North Yorkshire. This location is easily accessible from Ripon, Thirsk, Harrogate, Darlington, Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough, York and the surrounding areas.

As a key member of our operations team, you’ll play an important role in producing high-quality aggregate materials that support the construction industry while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, environmental and quality performance.

What you’ll be doing

As a Loading Shovel Operative, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a busy stockyard, loading wagons and blending materials to specification
  • Operating mobile plant machinery, including a loading shovel
  • Working with aggregates and supporting daily quarry operations
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure customers receive quality products and on-time deliveries
  • Carrying out site safety, geotechnical and maintenance inspections as part of the wider team
  • Promoting and maintaining a culture of zero harm and behavioural safety
  • Ensuring compliance with site health, safety and environmental requirements

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with experience in a similar aggregates, quarrying, industrial or factory environment who can demonstrate a proactive and safety-conscious approach to work.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Wheeled Loading Shovel licence (essential)
  • Previous quarrying and mobile plant operating experience (advantageous)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Flexible approach and willingness to support operational requirements
  • Positive attitude and desire to develop both operational and supervisory skills
  • Knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work (HIRA)
  • Excellent timekeeping and a dependable work ethic
  • Confidence to raise safety concerns and contribute to continuous improvement
  • Full UK Driving Licence
