Local Services Manager for Somerset – Alzheimer’s Society
Are you looking for a leadership role where you can make a real difference to dementia services across Somerset?
Do you have the skills to manage contracts, lead a team, and work collaboratively within a multi-agency pathway?
We’re excited to offer an opportunity as Local Services Manager for Somerset. This is a home-based role, but regular travel is required across the region for meetings, engagement activities, and partnership work. Mileage claims will be paid from the Somerset border, and as this is a large, rural county with poor transport links, access to your own vehicle is essential.
About the Role
The Somerset region is unique for Alzheimer’s Society, delivering services through a grant-funded contract with innovative commissioners. The Somerset Dementia Adviser Service is an active participant in the Somerset Dementia Partnership, supporting conferences, workshops, and advocacy.
You will work closely with another Local Services Manager to oversee delivery across the county, ensuring alignment with our Help and Hope strategy and ** organisational values**.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing and reporting on contractual requirements to the ICB (Integrated Care Board) and Dementia Partnership
- Leading and mentoring a team of Dementia Advisers and volunteers, ensuring group delivery across the county
- Collaborating with the other Local Services Manager to ensure seamless service provision across Somerset while being part of the South West Regional Management Team
- Conducting quality monitoring, performance tracking, and shaping team culture within Somerset
- Building relationships with local authorities, health boards, and pathway partners, including presentations and advocacy for people affected by dementia (potential media interviews)
- Identifying opportunities to strengthen services and improve outcomes for individuals with dementia

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
