Locum Consultant in Cellular Pathology Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
About the Role
The cellular pathology department at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is expanding its capacity. We are seeking applicants to fill a Locum Consultant position, offering digital reporting and the highly innovative potential to implement home reporting in the future.
This is a fixed-term contract position, from 16 May 2026 until 15 June 2027, designed to replace an existing role. The post involves providing a full-time commitment at 10 programmed activities, completing a team of seven Consultant Histopathologists.
This is a critical replacement post, ensuring continuity while the team expands to eight. Applicants who, for personal reasons, are unable to work full-time are still encouraged to apply, with discussions held to adapt job content collaboratively with the Trust.

Responsibilities
The post-holder is responsible for:
- Providing comprehensive histopathology and non-gynaecological cytology services at the hospital.
- Collaborating with colleagues to ensure a robust cellular pathology service for the University Hospital Foundation Trust and local GP services in North Buckinghamshire.
- Reporting an equal (pro-rata) share of the department’s workload across histopathology and non-gynaecological cytology, ensuring reliability, expeditiousness, and high standards in reporting.
- Participation in private histopathology is optional, facilitated on a weekly rota basis for those participating.
Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and possess a valid licence to practise, or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview.
- Hold Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCP Path) or demonstrate equivalent qualifications.
