Locum Consultant Gynaecologist (Gynaecological Cancer Unit Specialist) – Full-Time (12 Months)
About the Role
Applications are invited for a full-time locum consultant gynaecologist post specialising in gynaecological cancer, for a 12-month period.
This exciting opportunity aims to complement the existing consultant team, enhance the skilled workforce, and address the growing demand for gynaecological services—including gynaecological cancer NHS targets—to reduce waiting times and clinical risk.
The Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB)(serving Birmingham and the Black Country) is seeking a dedicated professional to support outpatient clinics, surgical procedures, and theatre workloads while contributing to clinical research and medical education through partnerships with the University of Birmingham and University of Aston.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert gynaecological oncology services, including:
- Complex gynaecological surgery
- Colposcopy and management of vulval disease
- Manage outpatient clinics, gynaecology on-call rotations, and operation lists as agreed with the department.
- Occasionally support the on-call obstetrics team upon request (no formal obstetrics duties).
- Contribute to clinical research initiatives and medical education opportunities.
- Maintain a commitment to high-quality patient care and team collaboration.

Essential Criteria
Applicants must hold:
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent (or be within six months of expected CCT receipt at time of interview).
- Full GMC registration in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, with entry on the GMC Specialist Register (MRCOG or equivalent).
- Completion of either the Advanced Training in Surgical Management (ATSM) or Specialist Intercollegiate Training Module (SITM) in Gynaecological Oncology.
- Demonstrated expertise in performing complex gynaecological surgery with strong clinical skills.
Desirable Experience
- Prior involvement in gynaecological oncology, colposcopy, or specialist vulval disease management.
- Experience in NHS trusts with high gynaecological cancer service responsibilities.
- Interest in educational or research projects aligned with gynaecology.
