Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine

Consultant Grade Vacancy (Acute Internal Medicine)

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, passionate, innovative and progressive Consultant who shares our vision, to join our Acute Medical Consultant team at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.

About the Role

The appointee will cover all areas of Acute Internal Medicine, including:

  • Acute Medical Unit
  • Short Stay Unit (SSU)
  • **Medical Single Day Emergency Care (SDEC)
  • Virtual Clinics
  • Acute Hospital At Home service (EPICENTRE)

This is an exciting opportunity for an innovator and leader who will deliver high-quality service development, research, teaching and education in acute medicine.

Specialty Flexibility:

  • The role offers a specialty session outside acute medicine, with consideration for joint job plans in:
    • Frailty
    • Intensive Care Medicine
    • Toxicology
  • Flexible working is actively encouraged.

This is also a nationally recognised POCUS (Point-of-Care Ultrasound) training centre, with a dedicated AMU Clinical Skills Lab for training in:

  • POCUS
  • Leadership
  • Quality Improvement Projects (QIP)

The degree is well-regarded by trainees and recognised internationally for its exceptional education, training and collaborative "family" culture.

  • Acute Internal Medicine (comprehensive clinical knowledge and skills)
  • POCUS competency

The successful candidate will ensure the continuity and optimal functioning of care across key services:

  • Acute Medical Unit (108 beds across four areas)
    • 14 beds in Enhanced Care Unit
    • 44 beds in Assessment area
    • 18 beds in Frailty Assessment Unit
    • 32 beds in SSU
  • Single Day Emergency Care (SDEC) (24 trolley spaces + 30+ chair spaces)
  • Supporting new ED and artificial health plan

Incept of service innovation will be supported through the trust’s strategic focus, including collaborations with multidisciplinary teams and neighbouring specialties with multidisciplinary and value-delivering solutions.
