Applications are invited for two full-time locum consultant gynaecologist posts.
Requirements & Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- possess a CCT or equivalent, or be within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview
- be registered on the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- hold full GMC registration
- achieve MRCOG (or an equivalent qualification)
Additionally:
- Skills to perform complex benign gynaecological surgery required.
- Must have completed one of the following:
- ATSM: “Benign Abdominal Surgery: Open and Laparoscopic” or “Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery for the Excision of Benign Disease”
- SITM: “Gynaecological Surgical Care: Management of Complex Non-malignant Disease”
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be responsible for:
- Covering operating lists, outpatient clinics, and the gynaecology on-call rota (frequency determined by the directorate).
- Though no obstetric commitments, on-call support for consultant obstetricians as requested.
- Conducting clinical research and engaging in medical education, with strong ties to University of Birmingham and University of Aston.

- Ultrasound scanning
- Management of Vulval Disease
About the Role & Context
These posts aim to:
- Complement the existing consultant team
- Expand and strengthen the gynaecology workforce
- Address sustained growth in service demand, driven by:
- Rising referrals
- Population change
- Delayed care
This will enhance outpatients, diagnostics, procedures, and theatre capacity, reducing waiting times and clinical risk.
