Locum Consultant in Ophthalmology – Full-Time
We are seeking a full-time locum consultant in ophthalmology to join our established team. You will collaborate closely with colleagues in hospital and community optometry, delivering patient-centred, safe, and clinically effective care.
This role places particular emphasis on high-volume cataract surgery, requiring a candidate with a proven track record in this specialty.
Main Role Details
- Primary Base: Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline, with travel to other hospitals in Fife as required.
- Focus: Ophthalmology, with expertise in cataract surgery being essential.

Key Requirements
Qualifications & Registration
Applicants must hold:
- Full GMC registration
- A valid license to practise
- Eligibility for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register
Specific criteria apply based on training background:
UK-Trained Candidates
- Must demonstrate higher specialist training leading to CCT, or be within 6 months of confirmed entry into the register on the date of interview.
- Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) holders can apply for substantive consultant posts only after being awarded CESR.
Non-UK Trained Candidates
Must provide evidence of:
- Equivalent training
- Demonstration that their knowledge, skills, and experience meet UK eligibility standards for practising as an ophthalmologist.
Work Permissions in the UK
A legal requirement exists to confirm your entitlement to work in the UK. Proof of eligibility, such as:
- A relevant work visa or
- EU settled or pre-settled status
