Job Opportunity: Senior House Officer or Registrar (Plastic Surgery) — Paediatric Focus
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Plastic Surgery at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital, rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.
The Paediatric Plastic Surgery Service at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BWCH) provides:
- Secondary level paediatric plastic surgery to Birmingham’s children and young people.
- Tertiary care for wider regional and national referrals, covering:
- Children’s hand and upper limb surgery
- Vascular malformations
- General paediatric plastic surgery (including traumatic injuries and lower limb trauma)
- Laser treatment
- Reconstructive support across surgical specialties
Location & Setting
Birmingham Children’s Hospital is the Paediatric Major Trauma Centre for the West Midlands.
Primary Responsibilities
A typical working day/week involves:
- Covering the surgical unit as per the provided rota.
- Attending, assisting, and independently managing outpatient clinics.
- Participating in patient evaluation and multidisciplinary team (MDT) clinics.
- Preoperative assessment, surgery, and postoperative patient care.
- Attending the Emergency Department for trauma assessment, planning, and treatment.
- Supporting the on-call rota as assigned.
- Assisting with clinical teaching in the department.
- Contributing to weekly patient review meetings.
- Covering colleagues during absences.
- Conducting audit and research.
