Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine
Location
Based in the Department of Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) at Leicester General Hospital. This is a less than full-time post for 3-4 days per week / 6.5 PA’s
About the Role
Leicester has a high reputation for the provision of sport, exercise, and musculoskeletal medicine, with many of our Consultants have current, or have held, national roles. The successful candidate will become a key member of an established multi-disciplinary team, including five Consultants, extended scope physiotherapists, speciality doctors, clinical nurse specialists and a podiatrist. The main responsibility will be provision of secondary care SEM services to our local population across sites in Leicester and Leicestershire, including Leicester Hospitals and at the National Centre for Sport & Exercise Medicine based at Loughborough University. The East Midlands offers unique opportunities for developing a full-time career in Sport & Exercise Medicine.
The Post
The post is a locum for 12 months initially and would be suitable for individuals on the Specialist register in SEM or within a 6 month period of obtaining a CCT in SEM. Applicants must have MRCP, MRCGP, or equivalent, and be Members or Fellows of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine (UK). A comprehensive clinical experience of sport and exercise and musculoskeletal medicine is expected. A long term commitment to NHS SEM services in the Leicester is anticipated

Responsibilities
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
- To share with colleagues' responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients.
- To promote new ways of working and coordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community.
- Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
- Supervise and train junior medical staff
- To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
- Teaching, research and administration.
- To proactively develop the service.
- To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
