Consultant Paediatric and Adolescent Oncologist Opportunity

We are delighted to offer this exciting opportunity for a Consultant Paediatric and Adolescent Oncologist to join the paediatric oncology team within the Children and Young People’s Cancer Service. This is a fixed term position of 12 months to cover Maternity leave.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled colleague to join our team delivering expert care to children and young people with cancer. Specifically, we are looking for someone with a demonstrable interest in late effects. The role will also include supporting clinical oncologists to deliver proton-beam radiotherapy to external patients – in a complementary area of specialism e.g. brain tumours, rare tumours or sarcoma. Attending and on-call cover of paediatric oncology and teenage in-patients is a core part of the post.

CV required for application

The job plan will contain 7 Programmed Activities per week to be carried out on UCLH sites.

Job Responsibilities

  • Emergency duties (including emergency work carried out during or arising from on-call)
    • On-Call: The post will contribute to the CYPCS acute on-call rota. This will be a 1:7 consultant on call for paediatric oncology and 1:7 weekends with ward rounds on site each day; and subsequently on call from home with return if necessary.
    • Attending: The post holder will be responsible for about 10 attending weeks per year (1 in 8) with clinical responsibility for acute oncology care in inpatient, ambulatory care, Grafton Way building radiotherapy suites and outpatient environments. The expectation is for the conduct of a minimum of 2 formal ward rounds per week.
    • Multi-disciplinary meetings or other meetings which relate directly to patient care including the late effects MDT. There are additional requirements to attend psychosocial MDTs in paediatrics and separately in TYA, particularly when “attending” to advocate for own patients.
    • Outpatient clinics. The post holder will conduct 2-3 clinics per week, one of which will be late effects.
    • Collaborative working with Clinical Oncology team to provide paediatric oncology expertise for external patients referred for proton-beam and photon radiotherapy.
    • Administration directly related to the above (including but not limited to referrals & notes).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
